Alex Petrik employs his superior research, investigative, and written advocacy talents as an associate in the firm’s Business & Commercial Litigation and Eminent Domain groups.

Alex’s appreciation for clarity and persuasion in the written word comes from his experience on both sides of the bench. In law school, he was a research assistant with the Michigan Court of Appeals, and after graduation, he returned to the Court, first as a research attorney and later as a law clerk to Chief Judge Pro Tem Christopher M. Murray. Alex contributed to several significant opinions and rulings, and he relished the opportunity to delve into novel issues of law and fact.

Before arriving at Zausmer, Alex practiced with a large Midwest law firm, successfully representing insurers in several high-exposure cases in state and federal court. Along with drafting insurance coverage opinions and reservation of rights letters, he assisted in discovery, pre-trial motions, and trial preparation in complex litigation involving mass torts, product liability, environmental liability and toxic torts, director and officer liability, and construction and building design defects.

A bona fide scholar-athlete, Alex received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Marketing, cum laude, from Valparaiso University, where he played tight end on the football team and was inducted into the Gamma Sigma Alpha Honor Society. He earned his Juris Doctor, magna cum laude, from the University of Detroit Mercy School of Law, garnering several academic awards while also serving as a student mentor, a student attorney with the Mortgage Foreclosure Defense Clinic, and Editor-in-Chief of the law review. His law review article on successor liability was cited by the Michigan Court of Appeals in a published opinion addressing the fraudulent transfer of assets.
