He has successfully represented his clients in a broad variety of complex litigation matters at both the trial court and appellate level. Brian litigates cases with tenacity, and his creative thinking and unique discovery inquiries often uncover witnesses and facts which prove to be the deciding factor in a favorable outcome for his client.
Brian earned his undergraduate degree from Saginaw Valley State University (SVSU), and graduated summa cum laude with a degree in Criminal Justice, and a minor in Legal Philosophy. While attending SVSU, Brian was a scholarship athlete competing for the Men’s Golf Team. He also represented the Men’s Golf Team on the Student Athlete Advisory Committee. Brian continued his academic studies at Wayne State Law School, where he spent time interning with the Michigan Court of Appeals and United States District Court.
Before joining Zausmer, Brian practiced insurance defense at a regional law firm, where he quickly gained the trust of multiple clients. In that role, Brian defended catastrophic personal injury cases involving premises liability, products liability, trucking, and general negligence claims. Of particular note, Brian successfully defended a premises liability matter, with potential exposure exceeding $1 million, by convincing the court that plaintiff was not owed a duty based on the particular facts of the case. Brian then convinced the Court of Appeals to uphold the trial court’s grant of summary disposition.
Brian was also responsible for the successful defense of a retail merchant in a products liability action involving the sale of a cross-bow. In that case, he was able to convince the court to grant summary disposition in favor of the defendant, and later successfully briefed and argued an appeal before the Court of Appeals, which upheld the decision of the circuit court.
Outside of the office, Brian enjoys spending time with his wife and family. He continues to compete in amateur golf tournaments sanctioned by the Golf Association of Michigan (GAM) and Michigan Publinx. Brian also works as an Assistant Golf Coach at Detroit Catholic Central, his high school alma mater and a perennial powerhouse in the State of Michigan. As a passionate supporter of public lands and conservation, Brian is a member of the Backcountry Hunters and Anglers (BHA) and Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation (RMEF).
