An associate in Zausmer’s Insurance Defense Group, Nickolas Butris focuses on special investigation matters and thinks outside of the box when developing defense strategies.

Nickolas prides himself on targeted discovery to build the best defense. Organized and thorough, his strategies are constantly evolving through the duration of each case he handles. Clients value the results he achieves through his cross-examination, writing, and oral advocacy, and appreciate that he is always available to them.

Before coming to Zausmer, Nickolas worked at national firm where he represented Fortune 100 companies in cases involving complex insurance and healthcare fraud and handled all stages of litigation, including discovery, facilitations, trials, and appeals. He also gained significant experience representing clients in business formation and transactions, as well as commercial real estate matters.

Nickolas earned his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Wayne State University and his Juris Doctor from Michigan State University College of Law. While in law school, he volunteered for Amnesty International working on the death penalty abolition project. He enjoys educating other professionals and students alike, and has done so by working with the American Inns of Court, Oakland County Bar Association Chapter.

Outside of the legal profession, Nickolas and his wife share a passion for the outdoors and are both avid skiers, making it a point to travel to their favorite destinations, including Colorado and Montana.
