As an associate in the firm’s Insurance Defense group, John VanGemert uncovers the facts and details of every case to find the real story.

John honed his investigative talents before entering the practice. After graduating from Albion College’s business program in 1999, he joined a national consulting firm where he analyzed clients’ finances and operations, helping them save millions of dollars. Looking to channel his unique skills into the practice of law, he enrolled in the University of Detroit Mercy Law School, where he served as associate editor of the law review before graduating in 2007.

After law school, John accepted a position with a large commercial litigation and creditor rights firm, quickly gaining courtroom experience as well as managing client relationships and expectations. To broaden his litigation practice, he later joined a busy personal injury firm. There, he handled a substantial docket of motor vehicle lawsuits, pursuing claims for individuals and health care providers.

John obtained numerous successful outcomes for his clients, including several summary disposition, trial, and appellate wins. He also learned to navigate patient records and understand the medicine behind each claim.

John joined Zausmer where he now uses all of his advocacy skills and investigation talents to defend first- and third-party matters.
