With a strong background in litigation and a passion for appellate advocacy, Shelby Avery develops strategic, well-reasoned arguments to help clients succeed on appeal.
As a member of Zausmer’s appellate team, Shelby focuses on civil appeals and complex motion practice. She collaborates with trial attorneys to analyze intricate legal issues, develop strategy, and present compelling arguments in court. With experience in no-fault insurance and commercial disputes, she understands how cases evolve from trial through appeal, allowing her to anticipate challenges and position her clients for success.
Shelby’s education in sociology, opera, and theater taught her to analyze human behavior, think on her feet, and present arguments with confidence. Her study of social dynamics provides insight into how people think and make decisions—an essential skill in advocacy—while her performance training helps her remain composed and effective in high-pressure situations.
Shelby excels at distilling complex legal issues into clear, persuasive arguments while ensuring clients feel heard and supported throughout the process. She takes time to build strong client relationships, understand concerns, communicate options, and develop strategies for achieving favorable outcomes. Clients and colleagues value her ability to think critically, anticipate opposing arguments, and craft innovative legal theories.
Outside of work, Shelby is an avid runner and podcast enthusiast. She enjoys spending time with her husband and son and their husky, Georgie.
