Unlike many local organizations that feed the homeless in our city, Heart 2 Hart goes further.
Describing itself as a “modern day cavalry,” Heart 2 Hart staff and volunteers hit the streets three days each week to distribute life-sustaining items to hundreds of homeless Detroiters. Last year, the non-profit handed out:
- 11,400 lunches
- 2,050 pairs of new socks
- 1,800 shirts, sweaters, and hoodies
- 1,000 hygiene kits including deodorant, razors, shampoo, soap, toothbrushes, and toothpaste
- 500 pairs of new underwear
- 110 jackets and winter coats
- 100 pairs of shoes
Heart 2 Hart doesn’t stop there. It also connects people to critical assistance like community service organizations, rehab facilities, estranged family members, and potential employers.
On August 5th, the Zausmer family and Heart 2 Hart Board Member Mark Zausmer went “Casual for a Cause,” collecting funds to support the ongoing efforts and activities of this worthy cause. There are many ways to make money or food donations – click here to learn how you can help.
