Mischa Boardman and Cinnamon Rice Among Hosts of City Year Detroit’s Women’s Leadership Breakfast

Each year, City Year Detroit helps Detroit-area students and schools succeed through teams of AmeriCorps volunteers that provide academic, social, and emotional support.

On November 17th, the organization presented its Women’s Leadership Breakfast, bringing together 250 leading women in education, business, and philanthropy to discuss the challenges in our city’s schools and ways to make meaningful change. The event featured panelists Melanca Clark, President & CEO of Hudson-Webber Foundation; Jackie Parker, Director of Global Philanthropy and Corporate Giving at General Motors; and Jennette Smith, Editor of Crain’s Detroit Business.

Zausmer shareholders Mischa Boardman and Cinnamon Plonka served on the host committee for the event, which also raised money to fund 71 City Year AmeriCorps members who volunteer full-time in seven Detroit schools to tutor, mentor, and offer encouragement in and out of the classroom.

City Year Detroit and the work it does is especially close to the ZAC family. Managing shareholder Mark Zausmer serves as Chair of the City Year Detroit Board, and earlier this year he spearheaded the organization’s Red Jacket Gala, a fundraiser that generated $500,000 and celebrated the efforts of City Year volunteers.
