Camp Casey

Children fighting pediatric cancers and rare blood disorders often face rigorous treatment schedules that leave little time for play and normalcy.

As anyone can imagine, the associated pain, fatigue, stress, and fear can take a toll on patients and their families.

Camp Casey’s mission is to deliver a large dose of fun, diversion, and “horseplay” to the doorsteps of affected kids. From May through September, this non-profit organization provides “Horsey Housecalls” to dozens of children and their families in Michigan with on-site horseback riding, crafts, and picnics in their own yards. Other programs include overnight “Cowboy Campouts” at dude ranches in Michigan, as well as a number of special planned events called “Outlaw Outings.”

Camp Casey was founded in memory of Casey Foote, who battled bone and brain cancer until her death at the age of 12. Near the end of her life, horses and the outdoors provided her comfort, and the time she spent grooming and riding her favorite horse helped her endure chemotherapy, multiple surgeries, and the emotional weight of her illness. Camp Casey brings that same solace to others like her.

Led by Zausmer paralegal Rebecca Illson, our attorneys and staff went “Casual for a Cause” on January 20th to support Camp Casey as it prepares for the 2017 season of Horsey Housecalls and related events.
