As reported in a recent Detroit Free Press article, The Detroit Police Department has made significant strides over the last several years in working through a backlog of more than 11,000 unopened, untested rape kits.
But there are still more than 600 left, each one representing a brutal crime that could potentially be solved for just $490 – the cost of scientific testing of each of the evidence kits.
On April 28th, Zausmer attorneys and staff went “Casual for a Cause” to support the AA490 Challenge and Enough SAID AA490, a local coalition determined to raise the money needed to process every remaining kit. Special thanks to Zausmer shareholder Amy Applin for suggesting and leading the campaign for the month of April, which was Sexual Assault Awareness Month.
